1888 Benjamin Harrison Levi Morton Jugate Presidential Campaign Bandana
This striking 1888 U.S. Presidential campaign bandana displays the likenesses of Benjamin Harrison and his running mate, Levi P. Morton, surrounded by the bold blues and reds of American stars and stripes on a white background. An eagle majestically spreads its wings above a muscular arm holding a hammer between the jugate portraits, and the campaign slogan, "PROTECT HOME INDUSTRY", is impressively blazoned beneath them.
Harrison, the Republican candidate and ultimate victor, ran against the incumbent president, Grover Cleveland. Benjamin Harrison's one-term presidency is remembered for the ratification of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act and the protection of voting rights and education for African Americans.
