Vintage Flag - WWII U.S. Flag Mare Island 1945 Dated No. 11

World War II United States Flag 1945 Dated Mare Island Beautiful! This is an authentic WWII 1945 dated U.S. flag.  It was manufactured in 1945 at the Mare Island Boat yards. Its a U.S. No. 11 style flag. Made out of a wool material. The canton and stripes of the flag are made of wool bunting that has been pieced and sewn with machine stitching. The stars are silk-screened in white paint. This is a known technique in use in the manufacture of U.S. naval ensigns at the time and can be seen on other Mare Island flags. There is a heavy canvas binding along the hoist The fly end is bound with 4 rows of stitching, instead of the usual 2 rows found in commercially made flags. They didn't use brass during the war as it was being used for ammunition. The end is heavy duty duck cotton and there are reinforcements on the top and bottom of the flag. Looks unused. Just a beautiful piece of WWII history.
